As reported by “NBN” with a link to the material Bloomberg, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has issued a statement: Budapest intends to wait until the inauguration ceremony of newly elected US President Donald Trump before making a decision on extending EU sanctions against the terrorist state.

Previously, approval of sanctions against Russia was a routine procedure, but to continue some bans, unanimous support from 27 EU member states would be required, which would likely open the door for Orban to use his veto power. In particular, at the final of the recent EU summit (held on Thursday, December 19), Orban unpleasantly surprised his colleagues by pointing out his own unwillingness to “move forward with the extension [of sanctions].”

At the same time, Brussels is concerned that Orban could openly partner with Trump in order to try to destroy the combined efforts of the European bloc aimed at providing regular financial and military assistance to Ukraine.

It should be noted that the European sanctions against the Russian Federation should be extended until the end of January, 11 days after Trump takes office as head of the White House (January 20, 2025).

Earlier, our information portal wrote about how Orban responded to Zelensky's criticism of his idea of a “Christmas truce” with the Russian Federation.
