Famous linguist Oleksandr Avramenko explained in his express lesson the difference between the similar words “voєnniy” and “viyskovyi”, the use of which often causes confusion.

According to the expert, it is necessary to pay attention to the root of these adjectives, the publication “NBN” reports.

The word “voєnniy” has the same root as the noun “viyna”, therefore it will be used to describe everything that is directly related to war: military conflict, military invasion, military state, military doctrine, military provocation, etc.

Avramenko added that the adjective “viyskovyi” is used to denote everything that concerns the army or a serviceman: the military hospital, the military ticket, the military airfield, the military hospital, the military prize, the military dispute, the military report, the military correspondent, the military unit, etc.

Note that there are words with which it is appropriate to use both adjectives, for example: military/military bloc, military/military court, military/military history, military/military dictatorship, military/military tactics, military/military strategy, military/military goalsetc.

Earlier, Avramenko explained how to correctly express gratitude in Ukrainian.
