David Vucci, a research fellow at the London-based think tank the Henry Jackson Society, Kirichenko, in his article for the American publication The Hill, writes that the new offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian territory looks like a strategically calculated step on the eve of Trump's inauguration, NBN reports.

The expert notes that the operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the border region of the Russian Federation last August caused conflicting assessments, but US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the successes of the defenders in this direction could be important in future negotiations with Moscow.

The offensive of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region should demonstrate the weaknesses of the Russian Federation, maintain the initiative of the Defense Forces on the battlefield and strengthen their positions.

The analyst believes that Trump may regard Russia's weakness and vulnerability as an ideal opportunity to increase pressure on Moscow in order to force it to sit down at the negotiating table. Then, in this process, the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region will become the American president’s “trump card.”

Recall that former Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko explained what Kyiv should convey to the Trump administration regarding Ukraine’s membership in NATO.
