The former head of the German government, speaking at a reception of the Christian Social Democrats in Dusseldorf, said that the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine stopped the main the principle of the post-war order in Europe – territorial inviolability.

In her opinion, only with America and the North Atlantic Alliance can the Kremlin dictator be defeated in the war and Ukraine's independence be preserved, the NBN publication reports with reference to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

The former chancellor called the 47th head of the White House a “special president” who “protects the legitimate interests of the United States.” At the same time, the politician does not believe in “win-win situations” in multilateral cooperation, since there is always a winner and a loser. The former official added that it is impossible to change the newly elected American leader, but the allies can “react to him.”

Recall that Merkel previously claimed that the beginning of Ukraine's path to the North Atlantic Alliance in 2008 would have provoked Putin to begin an invasion earlier.
