As reported by NBN with reference to the Reuters agency material, the Ministry of Finance and Trade of China criticized the introduction by the current White House administration of a 10 percent duty on the import of Chinese goods into the United States.
As it became known, Beijing intends to appeal the above-described decision by filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization and by taking a number of unspecified “countermeasures” in response to the tariff, which will come into force on Tuesday, February 4.
In addition, the Chinese Ministry of Finance stated that such steps by Trump critically violate the rules of international trade, while calling on Washington to move to frank dialogue and strengthen cooperation.
At the same time, the most acute protest from the Chinese authorities concerned the topic of fentanyl, since Trump repeated the rhetoric of the previous President of the United States, Joseph Biden, who called on Beijing to disrupt the supply chain of precursor chemicals (manufactured in China, and are imported into the United States) needed to produce the drug.
In particular, China's financial department is confident that fentanyl is exclusively “America's problem” because Beijing has carried out “extensive anti-drug cooperation with the United States,” allegedly achieving “significant results.”
