As reported by NBN, citing an explanation published in the official X-account of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the company presented an updated GPT AI model with an index of 4.5, but access to it is only open to subscribers of the Pro tariff (the price of the service is $200/month).

According to Altman, the release of ChatGPT 4.5 will be done in stages, as there is a significant shortage of hardware. In particular, since OpenAI is expanding and “growing” quite quickly, the developers suddenly ran out of GPUs.

The GPU shortage is expected to be resolved by next week, as “tens of thousands of GPUs” are expected to arrive, allowing the new neural network to be released in a Plus version (a less expensive subscription, costing only $20 per month).

Altman added that OpenAI is developing its own AI chips in partnership with Broadcom, but they will take years to produce, and the company currently relies on identical hardware from Nvidia, whose cutting-edge Blackwell GPUs are already sold out (they won't be available until October 2025).
