The doctor explained that cleaning the tongue is as important for proper oral hygiene as brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing regularly, and visiting the dentist every 6 months.
According to her, the tongue can be a breeding ground for bacteria that cause bad breath, gum infections and tooth decay, the NBN publication writes, citing the Cleveland Clinic website.
The dentist explained that cleaning the organ should be done in two stages: first, carefully clean the tongue several times from the back to the front using a toothbrush and toothpaste, then remove plaque and bacteria using a scraper. This tool can be found in stores or pharmacies.
Peterson clarified that the scraper should be rinsed in warm water after each pass, as well as after the procedure is completed.
The doctor claims that proper tongue cleaning technique improves taste perception and overall health.
