German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius criticized the peace plan proposed by Donald Trump, calling it “a reminder of capitulation.” In an interview with Bild am Sonntag, Pistorius stated that a ceasefire along the current front lines would effectively mean acknowledging Russian occupation of Ukrainian territories, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing The Telegraph.
According to the minister, this is nothing more than a “frozen war” on Russia’s terms, which would not guarantee lasting peace, but only create a pause before the next phase of hostilities. Pistorius emphasized that such initiatives contradict Ukraine’s interests and European security as a whole.
The German defense minister’s stance followed remarks by Trump, who suggested a “ceasefire” through negotiations, without specifying any conditions. The former US president frequently claims that he could end the conflict quickly if re-elected, although he has not revealed the details of his plans.
Pistorius underlined that Ukraine has the right to determine the terms of a ceasefire or peace agreement and stressed the necessity of continued military support for Kyiv from the West.
