Officials in Moscow have voiced disappointment over former U.S. President Donald Trump’s public reaction to the high-profile “Spiderweb” operation conducted by American intelligence services, aimed at dismantling espionage activities allegedly coordinated from the Russian Federation, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Interfax.

The FBI-led operation exposed and disrupted a spy network operating in the interests of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB). As part of the investigation, U.S. authorities filed charges of espionage and interference in domestic affairs against several individuals accused of acting under the direction of Russian intelligence.

Kremlin representatives interpreted Trump’s lack of clear support for the counterintelligence operation as a sign of political weakness or a deliberate attempt to distance himself from the issue. Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is closely monitoring the situation, although he refrained from commenting directly on the actions of American law enforcement.

Meanwhile, in the United States, Trump’s silence regarding the exposed operatives sparked criticism from within the political establishment. Members of the Democratic Party noted that the former president’s failure to condemn the accused agents could be seen as tolerance of actions aimed at undermining U.S. sovereignty.

According to the investigation, the agents used fake identities, digital platforms, and intermediaries to transmit classified information. The “Spiderweb” operation has become one of the most extensive counterintelligence efforts targeting Russia’s hybrid threat on American soil.
