The ISW analytical material notes that the “second army of the world” launched a local offensive operation to capture Avdiivka back in October last year. After months of infantry assaults and waves of mechanized attacks, which were accompanied by huge losses, the Russian Armed Forces recently began a tactical advance through the city, NBN reports.

Experts note that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have created good defensive fortifications near settlements around Avdievka, which the Russians are also trying to capture.

The Institute for the Study of War recalled that Putin's occupation forces in the area have lost a large amount of equipment and personnel, so they will need time to recover and rest before they try to continue their offensive on other populated areas near Avdievka.

ISW believes that if Russian Federation troops are able to capture the city, they will have limited tactical advantages, so they are unlikely to be able to quickly advance further.

As a reminder, The White House said that the Russians could seize Avdeevka because the Defense Forces lack artillery ammunition.
