The British edition of the Financial Times, citing Western officials, writes that Ukraine's allies are alarmed by the possible dismissal of Zaluzhny, NBN reports.

Journalists quote one of the representatives of the G7 state, which supplies weapons to Ukraine. According to the interlocutor, the commander in chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is very popular among military personnel and compatriots. Zelensky's decision to fire the general could have the “backfire” effect at a time when unity is crucial.

The media also published a comment from retired Australian Armed Forces Major General Mick Ryan. He is convinced that replacing the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could negatively affect assistance to the country, in particular from the United States. Congress is able to use the dismissal of the military leader as evidence that Washington should not continue to support Ukraine.

The material notes that instead of Zaluzhny, Zelensky can appoint the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Kirill Budanov or the commander of the Ground Forces Alexander Syrsky as commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

One of the officials told reporters that Kiev’s Western allies are nervous about the prospect of appointing Ukraine’s chief intelligence officer to the post of commander in chief because of his well-known “brazen tactics.”

Recall that the mayor of the capital, Vitaly Klitschko commented on rumors about Zaluzhny’s dismissal.
