The war won’t eat pancakes: how much has the Maslenitsa index changed

Maslenitsa is a cheerful and generous holiday that provides many different goodies even in difficult times. The war won't eat the pancakes, but it will reduce the budget a little. WomanEL compared how much the cost of the main dish prepared for Maslenitsa has increased after a full-scale invasion.

As “Word i Dilo” writes, a traditional pancake recipe for 20 pieces includes the following set of products:

Holiday pancakes in pre-war 2021 could be prepared for 48.66 hryvnia. Half a liter of milk cost 12.98 UAH, several eggs – 9.60 UAH, sour cream – 13.23 UAH. But in 2022, the cost has already increased by 17.82% – to 57.33 UAH. All ingredients have risen in price, especially milk, butter and sour cream.

Last year, pancakes rose in price by 28.65% — up to 73.76 hryvnia. The price of eggs has increased the most. The cost of milk, sugar, vegetable oil and sour cream also jumped.

Maslenitsa 2024 will cost almost the same amount as in the past – 74.11 hryvnia (+0.48%). The cost of milk, butter and sour cream has increased over the year. Eggs, flour, sugar and vegetable oil, on the contrary, have fallen in price a little.

The war continues, but we celebrate Maslenitsa every year, albeit with a strain on the wallet. So, if we compare with the year before the full-scale war, pancakes have become almost one and a half times more expensive…
