Currently, the DneproGES station in Zaporozhye is in critical condition after Russian troops attacked it with missiles this night, March 22. The strike led to a fire at the station, where emergency services and power engineers are now working to overcome the consequences of this attack, writes WomanEL.
According to Ukrhydroenergo, the attack occurred in the early morning, when Russian missiles hit hydraulic structures and the Dnieper hydroelectric power station dam. This is one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in Ukraine, and its operation is important for the country's energy system.
The terrorist attack was announced several days ago, but despite this, the attack was very strong and caused serious damage. Currently, traffic on the road crossing of the Dnieper hydroelectric power station dam is completely limited. The prosecutor's office reports that one person died as a result of the attack.
Igor Sirota, director of Ukrhydroenergo, said the station was in critical condition after two direct missile hits. The turbine room and electrical equipment were damaged, which will require significant efforts to restore.
DneproGES is in critical condition – there were two direct hits. It will be necessary to completely restore the machine room and electrical equipment,
Sirota noted.
Despite serious damage, there is now no threat of a dam failure, and the situation at the station is under control. However, experts are assessing the consequences of the attack and determining whether further operation of the station will be possible.
For local residents, this attack was another blow in a major war being waged on their territory. The authorities are calling for calm and maintaining emergency measures aimed at eliminating the consequences of this attack.
By the way, it recently became known that the amount of water in the Dnieper River has increased dramatically.
