One of the top-ranked Ukrainian athletes, fencer Olga Kharlan, reached the finals of the individual tournament in the tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. WomanEL reveals how Olga defeated the Ugrian athlete.
The Ukrainian shablist defeated the representative of the Ugrian region, Anna Marton, in the quarterfinals. The competition between the athletes in the quarter finals ended with a score of 15:7 to the Ukrainians. Prior to this, Harlan in 1/16 defeated Shihomi Fukushima from Japan (15:9), and in 1/8 – the representative of Azerbaijan Anna Bashta, who previously played for Russia, (15:6).
The finalist Kharlan will continue the fight for medals with the first number of the world ranking of the International Fencing Federation (FIE), state tournament champion Sarah Balzer. The fight will end at 20.00.
Olga Kharlan is one of the most renowned Ukrainian athletes. The 2024 Olympics became the fifth fencing career. Zagalom Olga won four medals at the Olympic Games. Vaughn became the 2008 Olympic champion and the 2016 Olympic medalist in the team tournament. Kharlan also won bronze medals in special honors at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
