The director is filming “Tigercatchers” by Ivan Bagryany at home

The director of the seminal drama about the 90s “Once Upon a Time” Anna Buryachkova spoke about the work on the film adaptation of the famous novel “Tigercatchers” by Ivan Bagryany. Write about this to WomanEL on Vogue.ua.

The script will be written by Marina Stepanska, who previously collaborated with Buryachkova on her debut feature-length film “Once Upon a Time.” The producers of the new project are Natalia Libet and Olga Beshmelnitsina. The presentation of the project film will be held at the film festival in Cottbus, Germany.

“Tigercatchers” is a novel written by the Ukrainian writer and political activist Ivan Bagryany, who was his friend in 1944 roci. The work is based on autobiographical ideas, including the author’s exile to the Distant Gathering and his aftermath from the Gulag. The plot of the novel takes place at the beginning of the 30s of the 20th century and follows the story of the Ukrainian flight of Gregory Mnogrishny, who fled from the pull of death, who was transporting convicts to Colima, and became a “tiger-catcher” vorіy taizi.

Make a film based on the motives of this novel, written in the darkest hour of the twentieth century, in 1944, seems to be an even more pressing task today, since for the next century we are facing the same threat – the attempt of Russia to soon destroy our identity, land and history, as the filmmakers reveal. 

The hero of “Tigercatchers” is a victim who is seen as being a victim, and his vital character is created by “overcoming extreme circumstances and turning history around.”
