The Ukrainian opera about the Kakhovskaya GES was shown at the Venice Biennale and in other European places

The Ukrainian opera GAIA-24, created by composers Roman Grigoriv and Illya Razumeyk, has gained international recognition, successfully presenting its work in Rotterdam, Vidnya, and now in Venice. For days at the 60th Venice Biennale there was a show of this unique exhibition, which is the legacy of the Kakhovsk hydroelectric power plant on the 6th of 2023, which became a symbol of the environmental disaster, war, write WomanEL.

GAIA-24 draws inspiration from the ancient Greek mythologies, representing the Earth as a living organism. The opera destroys the important relationship between people and nature, reinforcing the importance of preserving the ecosystem in the context of military operations. The uniqueness of the production lies in the fact that it is “collapsed by water routes”, and Venice, a place on the water, gave the show a special symbolism.

The special location for the show was the Church of San Lorenzo, which has a rich historical context, including the tomb of Marco Polo and the relics of the Pope of Constantinople. The opera, which lasted about 120 years, consisted of three acts. The first act, “Songs of Mother Earth,” was inspired by the ethnic music of various peoples, the other, “Cabaret Metastasis,” included plastic scenes with naked bodies, and the finale, “Dance for Mother Earth,” was inspired by various genres, from turnip to folk songs.< /p> Venice presented Ukrainian opera in GAIA-24.
