Frying pan in the rhythms of the region ta dabu
SKOVORODANCE is a unique musical collaboration that presents a current look at the work of the philosopher Grigory Skovorod. The album includes 12 compositions in the style of regiment and dub, inspired by the collection “Garden of Divine Songs.”
We specially applied the Baroque frying-pan style to the rhythms of the region in order to show how natural it is to sound today’s verses of the eighteenth century, says Sergei Zhadan.
Irena Karpa added that the creators of the album adapted the poet’s language, “translating” his work from the Baroque surzhik to the understandable current Ukrainian language. The project was created with the participation of the Kharkiv Literary Museum and over 35 musicians, including Yuri Gurzhi and Lesik Omodada.
Festival mood and remixes to this world
The event ended with an energetic DJ set from Olimpia Vaitmustash. Remixes of the SKOVORODANCE composition became another stage in the development of the project. Musicians from 8 countries have created new versions of tracks that will soon appear on streaming platforms.
Are you listening?
The SKOVORODANCE album is already available for everyone to listen to popular music platforms. The vinyl version was released in a limited edition and will become a useful treasure for collectors. This project is not only a musical interpretation of Skovoroda’s creativity, but also a place between eras, which demonstrates that the classics can be just as contemporary as the latest trends.
