A street in Lviv was renamed in honor of Iryna Farion

On November 28, 2023, Lviv took an important step to honor Ukrainian linguist Iryna Farion, reports WomanEL. During the regular session of the Lviv City Council, deputies decided to rename Tekhnichna Street to Iryna Farion Street.

Iryna Farion Street is located in the Halytskyi district, where it connects Bandera Street with important educational institutions, such as Lviv Polytechnic and Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The street will run from Matejka Street to the junction with Ustiyanovycha and Bibliotechna Streets.

In addition, earlier in Lviv, a memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of the house where she lived – on Masaryk Street, 3. Another plaque was installed on the facade of Lviv Lyceum No. 75, where Farion studied.

Iryna Farion became known not only as a linguist, but also as an active public figure who made a significant contribution to the popularization of the Ukrainian language. Her works became important for the development of scientific research in this field, as well as for education in Ukraine. But, of course, it was not without scandals.

As a reminder, on July 19, 2024, Iryna Farion was shot dead in Lviv. The suspect was an 18-year-old young man from Dnipro.
