Alexander Rodnyansky criticized for supporting Russian actor who is nominated for an Oscar

The list of nominees for this year's Oscars was recently announced, and Russian actor Yuri Borisov has been included. He will compete for the title of “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in the film “Anora”, which tells the story of a relationship between a Russian rich man and a woman who provides intimate services, writes WomanEL.

Ukrainian producer and director Oleksandr Rodnyansky reacted to this news by dedicating a post to Borisov on Instagram. He showered the actor with compliments and expressed his admiration for his work. In addition, he highly praised the direction of “Anora” and the plot of the film. He emphasized that, despite his critical attitude towards Russian cinema, Borisov's work deserves recognition.

Yura Borisov became the first Russian actor in history to be nominated for an Oscar. This is a remarkable achievement for a talented actor. All recent years, the Russian media have been discussing the notorious Western “Russophobia” and “the abolition of great Russian culture.” And now — a slap in the face to propaganda. A Russian actor, and not one of the so-called “fugitives” or “good Russians,” receives major world film awards… Talent speaks for itself. I can’t admit to a great love for this picture, but Borisov’s role is good. Sean Baker's “Anora” is a comedy melodrama for Russian emigrants in America,

Commentators also expressed indignation that the producer does not pay enough attention to the achievements of Ukrainian artists in his publications. Here are some of the reactions:

Olexander Rodnyansky has not yet commented on the negative reaction of the audience.

Recently, the star of “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” got into a scandal because of his refusal to speak Ukrainian.
