Strengthening Ukrainian air defense and long-range weapons was discussed with Zelensky</p> <p> Grant Shapps </p> <p>7 March President Vladimir Zelensky held a meeting in Kiev with the British Secretary of State for Defense Grant Shapps.</p> <p>As stated on the head of state’s website, the interlocutors discussed the continuation of defense cooperation between both states.</p> <p> Focus on strengthening air defense defense, long-range capabilities of the Ukrainian army, meeting other urgent needs for weapons and ammunition. They also discussed the joint production of weapons.</p> <p>During the conversation, they noted Ukraine’s significant successes in ensuring freedom of navigation in the Black Sea and noted the importance of further unhindered functioning Black Sea transport corridor.</p> <ul> <li>On the same March 7 in Berlin, the heads of the British and German Foreign Ministries discussed the supply of long-range weapons to Kyiv. They were talking, in particular, about the Taurus missiles, which German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not want to hand over.</li> <li>London is prompting Berlin to take this step, fearing an escalation of the war because of these missiles. As British diplomat David Cameron later said, as long as the West “is not in a situation where a NATO soldier kills a Russian soldier, this is not an escalation.”</li> <li>By the way, the UK is also ready to lend Ukraine all the frozen assets of the Russian central bank.
