Tekhnicheska Street was renamed in honor of linguist Iryna Farion, who was shot in July.

This decision was approved today at a meeting of the Lviv City Council on November 28, reports Your City.

“Today we have Iryna Farion Street . This is the former Tekhnicheska Street,” noted Lyubomyr Melnychuk, a deputy of the Svoboda faction, during the meeting.

The Murder of Iryna Farion

  • Iryna Farion was killed in Lviv on July 19, and the likely perpetrator of the assassination attempt was detained in Dnipro a week later.
  • Vyacheslav Zinchenko denied his guilt. He was sentenced to two months of pretrial detention without the right to post bail.
  • The investigation is considering several motives for the murder, including Farion's social and political activities and personal hostility. Investigators also do not rule out a “Russian trace” in the murder.
  • On November 14, the court left Zinchenko in custody until January 12, 2025.
