The Ukrainian government is considering Rustem Umerov and Olha Stefanishyna for the position of ambassador to the U.S., sparking talks of potential cabinet reshuffles.

Ukraine’s leadership is currently discussing possible candidates for the post of ambassador to the United States. According to sources, two serving ministers – Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Justice Minister Olha Stefanishyna – are being considered for the high-level diplomatic position, reports the Baltimore Chronicle citing insiders within the president’s team.

One high-ranking source familiar with the talks noted that “Umerov’s nomination is in question,” and that Stefanishyna may be appointed to the ambassadorial role in Washington.

Meanwhile, the sources also expressed uncertainty about Rustem Umerov’s future role if Stefanishyna is indeed selected for the U.S. diplomatic mission. As of now, it remains unclear which position the current defense minister might be offered should the appointment go to Stefanishyna.
