American singer Justin Timberlake announced that he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease — an infection typically transmitted through the bite of an infected tick. He shared this news on his Instagram page, stating that battling this illness has become a part of his life. “I am dealing with some health issues, and I’ve been diagnosed with Lyme disease. I’m not sharing this to get your sympathy, but to shed light on what I’ve been going through behind the scenes,” wrote the singer. He explained that living with this diagnosis has been physically and mentally exhausting: “When I was first diagnosed, I was certainly shocked. But at least I was able to understand why I was on stage with excruciating nerve pain or just felt crazy tired or nauseous,” added Timberlake, as reported by Baltimore Chronicle, citing the singer’s Instagram post.
This message came after the completion of his tour, which started in April 2024, about a month after the release of his album Everything I Thought It Was. Following this tour, Timberlake faced criticism from fans, some of whom called his performances “sluggish.” Some commentators noted that his behavior might have indicated fatigue or health issues during the tour. In response to this, he commented: “I had a personal decision to make — stop touring or continue and figure it out. I decided that the joy I get from performing far outweighs the temporary stress my body was feeling. I’m so glad I kept going.” Lyme disease is an infectious disease transmitted through the bite of an infected tick, caused by bacteria of the Borrelia genus.
