Sydney Sweeney says she’d rather play James Bond himself than be his love interest as Jeff Bezos reportedly promotes her for the next 007 film.

American actress Sydney Sweeney, who has recently been rumored as one of the main contenders for the next “Bond girl,” appears to have far greater ambitions regarding the legendary spy franchise. Reports suggest that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos himself is promoting Sweeney for the role, yet the actress hinted that she would actually prefer to play James Bond, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Variety.

In an interview with the outlet, Sweeney modestly stated that she is “not aware of all the Bond rumors,” but admitted to being “a big fan of the franchise.” When asked about possibly joining the project, she responded that everything depends on the script — though she would find it much more exciting to play Bond himself.

Sweeney, best known for her breakout role in Euphoria, recently attended the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. The trio is currently collaborating on a new lingerie line, but insiders claim that Bezos aims to expand this partnership into film projects under Amazon’s umbrella.

Despite her image as one of today’s leading sex symbols, Sweeney has not escaped controversy. She faced backlash after starring in an American Eagle jeans campaign that featured the slogan “Great Genes,” which some critics viewed as racially insensitive given her blonde hair and blue eyes. Nevertheless, if Sweeney does join the Bond universe, her involvement would undoubtedly draw even greater public attention to the franchise.

Director Denis Villeneuve is reportedly set to lead the next Bond film, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight attached as screenwriter. According to industry sources, Villeneuve will not have final editing rights to the script — a restriction that previously prompted Christopher Nolan to decline the project. The list of potential new Bonds includes Tom Holland, Euphoria star Jacob Elordi (a frequent collaborator of Sweeney), and Bad Behaviour actor Harris Dickinson. British media also report that a lesser-known red-haired 37-year-old actor, Scott Rose-Marsh, has already undergone test screenings.

The previous and 25th Bond installment, No Time to Die, starring Daniel Craig and directed by Cary Fukunaga, premiered in 2021 and grossed over $775 million worldwide. Following that film, Craig officially retired from the role. Earlier this year, Amazon MGM Studios announced that it would take “creative control” of future Bond productions, while longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli stepped back due to disagreements with Amazon’s plans to expand the franchise in a Marvel-style cinematic univers.
