"Neutral" athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus will not participate in the traditional parade of countries.

Russian and Belarusian athletes who will be able to qualify for the2024 Olympic Gamesin Paris in a neutral status, will not take part in the parade of countries at the opening ceremony of the competition.

This decision was made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)

“Individual neutral athletes will not participate in the parade of delegations, since they are individual athletes. But they will be allowed to experience the event. The same principle was used for independent participants from the former Yugoslavia during the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona,” the IOC said.

Decision on the participation of “neutral athletes” in the closing ceremony of the Olympics -2024 will be adopted later.

Recall that on December 8, 2023, the IOC decided toadmitRussians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympics as “individual neutral athletes.” They will only be able to compete in individual competitions, while teams from aggressor countries will not be allowed. Any national symbols of the Russian Federation and Belarus are also prohibited – anthems, flags, etc.

In addition, Russian and Belarusian athletes who publicly support the war or have contracts with the armies of aggressor states will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games .

The Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
