Christoph Baumgartner became the author of a unique achievement.

Midfielder Austrian national team Christoph Baumgartner scored the fastest goal in the history of men's international football. This happened in a friendly match against the Slovak team.

The 24-year-old footballer of the German RB Leipzig opened the scoring already in the 6th second of the match. Immediately after the starting whistle, he received a pass from a teammate in the center circle, pulled the ball past several opposing players and, from outside the penalty area, accurately shot into the lower left corner.

Christophe broke the record of German forward Lukas Podolski, who in 2013 year scored in the 7th second in the match with Ecuador.

It is interesting that in another match, which also took place on March 23, Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz hit the goal of the French team in the 7th second of the game. Julian Nagelsmann's team beat Le Blais (2:0) on the road.

Let us note that for Baumgartner the match with Slovakia was the 35th as part of the Austrian national team. He has 12 goals and five assists.

The Slovakia – Austria match in Bratislava ended with the score 0:2. The second goal against the home team was scored by Andreas Weimann in the 82nd minute.

Let us add that this coming summer Austria and Slovakia will compete in the final tournament of Euro 2024.

The Austrians will play in a group with the Netherlands and France at the European Championship and the winner of the playoffs of path A (Wales – Poland).

The Slovaks will compete at the continental championship with Belgium, Romania and the winner of the playoffs of path B (Ukraine – Iceland).
