“We are not heroes, you are heroes”: Tsygankov dedicated the victory over Iceland and access to the Euro to the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Viktor shared his emotions after triumphant match.

Ukrainian national team midfielder Viktor Tsygankov commented on the strong-willed victory over the Iceland team (2:1) in the final match playoff qualifying for Euro 2024.

After the end of the match, Tsygankov, in a commentary for Suspilne Sport, stated that he first of all wants to dedicate this success to the soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who continue to defend Ukraine from Russian occupiers.

“I didn’t go into the locker room after the game because I was undergoing a doping test. I heard that everyone was happy. I’m happy for the whole country, for the people. First of all, I want to say, the guys who are fighting are a victory for you. If it weren’t for you, this would not have happened. This victory is for our people and our soldiers. I am very glad that everything happened this way.

I say again, this victory is for our country, our people, our soldiers who are fighting. We are not the heroes , the heroes are you, and if it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t even be able to play today. Guys, this is all for you. Glory to Ukraine.

Am I ready for the match? I did three training sessions. Everyone knows what kind of game it was, I knew. Therefore, first of all, I wanted to help my country and team. Moreover, they counted on me and believed in me. I was hoping to do my best to get us to the Euro.

Iceland game? They know what their strengths are. This team is very organized at the back and it was very difficult to break down that defense. They also scored first, and the game went in a different direction. But, fortunately, we scored the first goal, calmed down a little, then scored the second and were able to snatch this game.

Did it become easier after the comparison? Certainly. I repeat once again: they defended well, they understood how they could win the match. It was very important for us to score the first goal as soon as possible,” said Tsygankov.

Having defeated the Icelanders, Sergei Rebrov’s team reached the Euro 2024 final tournament, where they will play in Group E against Belgium, Slovakia and Romania.

The Euro 2024 final tournament matches from June 14 to July 14, 2024 will be held in Germany.
