 The Ukrainian national tennis team lost a 2:0 advantage and failed to reach the final of the Billie Jean King Cup

On the second day of play, the Ukrainian tennis players lost three matches in a row to the Romanians.

Ukrainian women's national team tennislost a match match to the Romanian team in qualifying for the Billie Jean King Cup. Following the results of five matches, the Ukrainians lost with a score of 2:3.

On the first day of play, Lesya Tsurenko won their singles matches (won by Ana Bogdan – 3: 6, 6:2, 6:0) and Elina Svitolina (beat Jacqueline Christian – 6:3, 7:5).

However, on the second day of the match duel, the Romanians managed to make a comeback and win three matches in a row .

At first Svitolina was defeatedin the game with Ana Bogdan – 4:6, 6:4, 3:6. Then Tsurenko lost to Christian – 6:2, 4:6, 4:6. Consequently, the score for the won matches was equal – 2:2.

The winner of the match confrontation was determined in the doubles match. In the decisive fifth match, Ukrainians Lyudmila and Nadezhda Kichenok lost to the Romanian tandem Bogdan/Christian – 2:6, 6:7.

Thus, the Ukrainian team lost the match against Romania and failed to get into the final round of the Billie Jean Cup King.

For the Ukrainian team, this is the third defeat in a row in the qualifying round for reaching the final part of the Billie Jean King Cup. In 2022, our tennis players lost to the US team, and in 2023 – to the Czech team.

In November, the Ukrainian team will play in the playoffs for the right to again compete in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifications. Potential rivals of our team are Argentina, Austria, China, Colombia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Serbia and the Republic of Korea.
