“It’s a shame”: Chelsea players almost fought over the right to take a penalty in the match with Everton (video)

Mikhail Mudrik's teammates argued for a long time about who would take the penalty kick.

A curious episode occurred during the match of the 33rd round of the English Premier League (EPL) between Chelsea Ukrainian winger Mikhail Mudryk and Everton another of our compatriots, defender Vitaly Mykolenko.

In the second half, with the score 4:0 in their favor, the London club earned a penalty – Noni Madueke was fouled in the Toffees penalty area.

The victim himself wanted to take a penalty kick, but his teammate Nicholas Jackson tried to snatch the ball , and then began to persuade his partner to take the penalty himself.

It didn't end there. Cole Palmer approached Madueka and asked him for the ball to take a penalty. Noni tried to object, but in the end, Blues captain Conor Gallagher took the ball from him and gave it to Palmer.

After this, Jackson intervened in the situation again and wanted to take the ball from Palmer, but he pushed him away with his hand . As a result, Gallagher pushed Madueke and Jackson away from the penalty spot, giving Palmer the opportunity to finally take the penalty.

Cole confidently converted the penalty and thus made it a poker match. He scored the first three goals before the break.

Note that for Palmer this was the 20th goal scored in the current Premier League. He leads the scoring race along with Manchester City forward Erling Haaland.

On the behavior of the London club players in social media users reacted with witty memes during the penalty kick.

After the match Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino commented on the penalty episode, saying that he was ashamed of his players and that something like this would not happen again.

“It's a shame. Afterwards we talked in the dressing room with the whole team and the whole staff – I wanted everyone to hear me. I won't let this happen again. It shows that we are still in the learning process. They need to learn We are Chelsea and we need to think collectively.  You may have individual challenges, but you always need to think about the team first.

I made it clear that Palmer took the penalty and this situation must be resolved. I told the players that I wanted to make decisions, strong decisions, but such things would not happen again. They are smart and are going to learn from this situation,” the official Chelsea website quotes Pochettino as saying.

Recall that Chelsea crushed Everton on their own field with a score of 6 :0. In addition to Palmer's poker, Jackson and Alfie Gilchrist scored a goal each.

Mudryk entered the starting lineup of the London club and was replaced in the 79th minute by Mykolenko, who played the full match for the Toffees.
