Devin Haney lost to Ryan Garcia in a spectacular fight, but still remained the champion.

On the night of April 21 in Brooklyn, New York (USA), a fight took place between the world champion in the WBC junior welterweight, American Devin Haney and his compatriot Ryan Garcia.

The WBC belt was supposed to be at stake, but before the fight Garcia did not meet the weight category limit of 63.5 kg. Ryan's weight turned out to be 1.4 kg more, so he could no longer claim the championship title.

During the fight, the boxers went the entire distance of 12 rounds. Garcia knocked down his opponent three times: in the 7th, 10th and 11th rounds.

However, Haney rose to his feet every time and took risks in the final round, trying to knock out his opponent. But it was already too late. Ryan deftly dodged his blows and even managed to dance in the ring, making fun of Devin.

As a result, Garcia won by majority decision – 112:112, 114:110, 115:109 .

For Haney, this is the first defeat in his career. Before that, he won 31 victories (15 by knockout), including in May 2023, by unanimous decision, he defeated Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko in the fight for the title of absolute world lightweight champion.

Garcia won his 25th victory (20 by knockout) at the profiling. He suffered his only defeat in April 2023 from American Gervonta Davis.

After the fight, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said that the organization’s belt would not become vacant, but would remain with Haney, despite his defeat.
