Ukrainian Olympians are advised to refrain from direct contacts with representatives of aggressor countries, not to communicate with them and not to take general photos and video.
The National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine have approved recommendations for Ukrainian athletes regarding possible contacts with Russian and Belarusian athletes at2024 Olympicsin Paris.
The corresponding document was published on the website of the NOC of Ukraine.
These recommendations were developed in order to protect Ukrainian athletes from provocative situations and promote the safety of representatives of the official delegation Ukrainian national team at the Games in the French capital.
The document outlines the main positions that Ukrainian athletes, coaches, members of the official delegation and other persons who will be in France during the 2024 Olympics are recommended to adhere to.
- refrain from direct contacts with representatives of countries -aggressors who may cause provocative actions on their part both in the Olympic Village and outside it;
- report any provocative actions on the part of Russians and Belarusians to the leadership of the delegation or a senior official;
- do not communicate on social networks with Russians and Belarusians, do not participate in discussions with them, do not respond to their content, do not publish general photos and videos;
- during and outside the award ceremonies, keep a distance from representatives of Russia and Belarus , and also refrain from sharing photos and videos;
- refrain from joint participation in press conferences, live broadcasts, interviews and other promotional events.
In addition, if an athlete of the Ukrainian national team is an employee of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, or other military formations, it is necessary to additionally comply with the rules and recommendations established by the relevant authorities.
These recommendations concern contacts not only with representatives of Russia and Belarus, but also with persons who support armed aggression against Ukraine and can use materials for propaganda.
The 2024 Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11 in Paris.
Recall that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ) against the background of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to the 2024 Olympics in a neutral status. They will only be able to compete in individual competitions, while teams from aggressor countries will not be allowed. Any national symbols of the Russian Federation and Belarus are also prohibited – anthems, flags, etc.
In addition, Russian and Belarusian athletes who publicly support the war or have contracts with the armies of aggressor states will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games .
It was also reported that Russian and Belarusian athletes were not allowed to attend the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics.
