Two-time European weightlifting champion died in the war against Russian occupiers

Alexander Peleshenko has fought in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2022.

Duringthe war Alexander Peleshenko, a two-time European champion in weightlifting and a participant in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, died against the Russian invaders.

The tragic news was reported by the state coach of the Ukrainian national team weightlifting Viktor Slobodyanyuk on his Facebook page.

“War takes the best… Defending Ukraine from invaders, today, May 6, the Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine, two-time European champion (2016, 2017) died heroically , Olympic weightlifting participant Alexander Peleshenko.

I express my sincere condolences to Alexander’s family and loved ones! This is a very difficult loss for the entire weightlifting community of Ukraine. “Heroes do not die,” the message says.

At the time of Peleshenko’s death, he was 30 years old; he had been fighting in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2022.

Alexander became the European weightlifting champion in 2016 -th and 2017. At the 2016 Olympic Games, he was one step away from an Olympic medal, taking fourth place.
