In the European Championship final on July 14, the English will play against Spain.
The England team defeated the Netherlands national team in the second semi-final match of Euro 2024on football. The match in Dortmund ended with the score 1:2.
Ronald Koeman's team took the lead in the 7th minute of the match. Javi Simons hit the ball into the top corner with a beautiful shot from outside the penalty area.
Gareth Southgate's men came back in the 18th minute. Denzel Dumfries in his own penalty area during a shot by Harry Kane touched his leg – the referee, after viewing the video replay (VAR), awarded a penalty, which Kane successfully converted.
Very quickly the English could take the lead. In the 23rd minute, Phil Foden struck after a solo pass, but Dumfries stopped the ball right on the goal line.
In the 30th minute, the Netherlands were close to taking the lead for the second time in this match , however, Dumfries' header after a corner was caught by the crossbar.
The Three Lions responded dangerously two minutes later. Foden hit the left post from long range. Thus, the teams went to the break with parity in the score.
In the second half, the opponents continued to play on opposite courses. Oranje created a great chance in the 65th minute – Virgil Van Dijk shot one-touch from a free kick, but Jordan Pickford saved the ball for a corner.
England could have scored in the 80th minute – Bukayo Saka sent the ball into the goal after Walker's cross, but before that Kyle was offside, so the referee did not count this goal.
The denouement of the tense confrontation came in the last minute of normal time. Ollie Watkins, who had come on as a substitute for Kane ten minutes earlier, received a pass from Cole Palmer on the right flank of the penalty area and hit the far bottom corner.
Four minutes of stoppage time in the second half were not enough for the Orange to to try to level the score and send the game into extra time. The England team is the second finalist of the 2024 European Championship.
