 Not only Maguchikh: which Ukrainians set world records in athletics during independence

Yaroslava is the fourth world record holder in athletics in the history of Ukraine and the only one whose record is valid .

On Sunday, July 7, Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh broke the world record for women's high jump.

This happened at the Diamond League stage in Paris. The 22-year-old athlete from Dnepr was the first in history to reach a height of 2.10 meters.

Maguchikh broke the world record, which had stood for 37 years. Yaroslava surpassed the achievement of the Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova, who jumped 2.09 meters at the World Championships in Rome in 1987.

Maguchikh became the fourth representative of Ukraine to set a world record in athletics since independence.

Previously, this was achieved by Sergei Bubka in the pole vault, Inessa Kravets in the triple jump and Natalya Dobrinskaya in the pentathlon.

At the same time, Yaroslava is the only current holder of a world record among Ukrainians.

We would like to remind you that in June of this year Maguchikh became the European champion in athletics. Another Ukrainian high jumper Irina Gerashchenko won bronze at the continental championship.
