Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina(No. 21 WTA) reached the quarter finals of Wimbledon 2024.
In the fourth round of the grass major, the Ukrainian confidently beat the Chinese Wang Xinyu (No. 42 WTA).
The match lasted 56 minutes and ended with a score of 6:2, 6:1 in favor of Ellina. This was the first head-to-head meeting between the tennis players.
Note that Svitolina played this match with a black ribbon, honoring the memory of the victims of the massive missile attack that the Russian occupiers launched across Ukraine on the morning of July 8.
Elina reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the third time in her career. Her personal record at this Grand Slam tournament is semi-finals in 2019 and 2023.
In the 1/4 finals, Svitolina will play with the fourth racket of the world, Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan.
Elina remains the only representative Ukraine in singles Wimbledon 2024. Previously, Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremskaya failed to reach the 1/8 finals.
The main draw of Wimbledon 2024 will last from July 1 to July 14. Last year, Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova won the Grand Slam tournament. It was to her that Svitolina lost in the semi-finals, showing the best result among Ukrainians.
