The honorable mission has been entrusted to tennis player Elina Svitolina.

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina will carry the Ukrainian flag at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games.

Svitolina announced this in an exclusive comment for Suspilne Sport.

It is not yet known whether Svitolina will carry the flag blue and yellow flag alone or in a pair with someone. Thus, at the previous Olympics-2020 in Tokyo, the flag bearers from Ukraine were Olena Kostevych (shooting) and Bohdan Nikishin (fencing).

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics will take place on Friday, July 26. It will start at 20:30 Kyiv time.

Svitolina will carry the flag of Ukraine in her status as the current Olympic medalist. At the Games in Tokyo, which were held in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Elina won bronze in the singles tournament.

Svitolina is the only tennis player in the history of Ukraine to win a medal at the Olympic Games.

Elina will become the third woman to carry the flag of Ukraine at the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics. Previously, this honor was received by Yana Klochkova (2008 Olympics) and Elena Kostevich (2020 Olympics).

The XXXIII Summer Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024 in Paris.

A total of 329 sets of medals in 32 sports will be contested at the 2024 Olympics. Ukraine will be represented by 140 athletes who will compete in 23 sports.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian tennis players recognized their opponents at the start of the 2024 Olympics.
