Kostevych sets Ukrainian record for number of Olympic appearances

The Paris Olympics are Olena's sixth in her career.

Ukrainian Olena Kostevych has set a national record for the number of appearances at the Olympic Games.

On July 27, she started at the 2024 Olympics, taking part in the 10-meter air pistol shooting qualification, where she took 19th place and failed to qualify for the final.

The competition in Paris is her sixth Olympics in Kostevych’s career. She became the first Ukrainian woman in history to compete in more than five Games. She previously competed in Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020.

Our country was represented at five Olympics by Oleh Lykov (rowing), Maksym Oberemko (sailing), Andriy Deryzemlya (biathlon), Valentina Shevchenko (cross-country skiing), Natalia Fokina-Semenova (track and field, discus throw), Alexander Abramenko (freestyle skiing, aerial skiing), and Valentina Semerenko (biathlon). The 2024 Olympics should also be the fifth for sabre fencer Olha Kharlan.

39-year-old Kostevych has four Olympic medals to her credit. She won gold in Athens (pistol, 10 meters), two bronzes in London (pistol, 10 and 25 meters) and bronze in Tokyo (pistol, 10 meters, mixed), which she won together with Oleh Omelchuk.

On Friday, August 2, Olena will compete in the 25-meter pistol shooting qualification. The final in this discipline is scheduled for Saturday, August 3.

In total, 140 athletes in 23 sports represent Ukraine at the XXXIII Summer Olympics. The Games in Paris will end on August 11.
