Kostyuk and Yastremska withdrew from the 2024 Olympic doubles: what was the reason

The Ukrainian duo will not take part in the 1/8 final match of the Olympic tournament in Paris.

Ukrainian tennis players Marta Kostyuk and Dajana Yastremska withdrew from the doubles at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

About This was reported by the coach of the Ukrainian national team, Mykhailo Filima, in a commentary for Suspilne Sport.

In the second round, the Ukrainians were supposed to play against representatives of Chinese Taipei, Xie Shuwei and Cao Chiayi, on July 30.

However, today Kostyuk has already played an extremely exhausting three-hundredth match of the 1/8 finals of the singles, in which she won a strong-willed victory over the eighth racket of the world, Maria Sakkari from Greece.

Marta spent 2 hours and 49 minutes on the court and tomorrow, July 31, she will compete in the quarterfinals against Croatian Donna Vekic.

Against the backdrop of such a crazy schedule, Kostyuk and Yastremska asked the organizers of the competition to postpone their doubles match to July 31, but they refused and gave Marta only three hours to rest after the match with Sakkari. As a result, the Ukrainians decided to withdraw from the doubles tournament.

Xie Shuwei and Cao Chiayi automatically advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will play against the winners of the match between the American duo Cori Gauff/Jessica Pegula and the Czech tandem Karolina Muchova/Linda Noskova.

Thus, only sisters Lyudmyla and Nadiya Kichenok will be left to represent Ukraine in doubles at the 2024 Olympics, who will play their 1/8 final match on Wednesday, July 31.
