A goal in the 1st minute did not help: Poliesie lost again to Olimpia and was eliminated from the European Cups (video)

The Zhytomyr team completed a historic European season for itself.

Zhytomyr Polesie lost to Slovenian Olimpia (1:2) in the return match of the second round of the 2024/25 Conference League qualification and was eliminated from the tournament.

Due to the full-scale war that Russian occupiers continue to wage against Ukraine, the match, nominally home for the Zhytomyr club, took place in the Polish city of Gliwice.

In the first match, which took place on July 25 in Slovenian Ljubljana, Polesie lost to Olimpia with a score of 0:2. Therefore, in the return match, the Zhytomyr team faced the task of making up for the two-goal deficit.

Imad Ashour's charges started the match successfully and opened the scoring in the first minute – Bohdan Kushnirenko closed the pass from Oleksandr Nazarenko and became the author of the Zhytomyr club's debut goal in European competitions.

However, in the 11th minute, Olimpia equalized the score in the match – Raul Floruc scored.

At the end of the match, the Slovenian team snatched victory – in stoppage time, in the 90+3-1 minute, Ivan Durdov scored from an acute angle.

Review of the match Polesie – Olimpia

Thus, Poliesie lost to Olimpia with a score of 1:4 on aggregate and ended its participation in the 2024/25 European Cups.

It should be noted that this season Poliesie played in European Cups for the first time in history. Last season, the Zhytomyr club took fifth place in the UPL, while Olimpia won bronze medals in the Slovenian championship.

Earlier it was reported that UEFA excluded Dnipro-1 from European Cups. In the second round of the Conference League qualification, Dnipro was supposed to play with the Hungarian “Puskas Academy”, but received technical defeats (twice 0:3) in both matches after the club was excluded from the UPL due to financial problems.

Consequently, Ukraine is left to be represented in the current campaign of European football cups by three clubs: “Shakhtar” (will start with the main round of the Champions League), “Dynamo” (in the 3rd round of the Champions League qualification will play with the Scottish “Rangers”) and “Kryvbas” (in the 3rd round of the Europa League qualification will fight with the Czech “Viktoria Plzen”).
