Kichenok sisters lose in tie-break in 2024 Olympic doubles quarterfinals

Ukrainians miss chance to win Olympic medal.

Ukrainian tennis players Lyudmyla and Nadiia Kichenok failed to reach the semifinals of the 2024 Olympic Games doubles in Paris.

In the quarterfinal match, the Kichenok sisters lost to the eighth-seeded Spanish duo Kristina Buksha/Sara Sorribes Tormo – 3:6, 6:2, 10:12.

The match lasted 1 hour and 43 minutes. The Ukrainians lost the first set, then took revenge in the second, but were defeated in the decisive tie-break (10:12), although they were leading with a score of 7:3.

The Kichenok sisters played in the Olympics for the third time in their careers. In Rio 2016, they were eliminated in the first round, and in Tokyo 2020 they stopped in the quarterfinals.

It should be noted that Ukrainians Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremska also competed in the doubles at the 2024 Olympics, but they withdrew from the competition and did not reach the 1/8 final match.

There are no more Ukrainian representatives in the singles at the 2024 Olympics either. So it can be concluded that Ukrainian tennis players finished their performance at the Games in Paris without medals.
