In the final, the Ukrainian team, which was represented at these competitions by Olga Kharlan, Elena Kravatskaya, Alina Komashchuk and Yulia Bakastova, defeated the South Korean team with a score of 45:42.
In the final fight against the South Koreans, our team was represented by Harlan, Komashchuk and Bakastova.
Olga entered the last fight (the fight lasted until 45 pricks – ed.) with a score of 37:40 in favor of her opponents. Harlan made a final spurt and won Ukraine’s first “gold” of the 2024 Olympic Games.
It should be noted that in the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian sabre fencers defeated Italy (45:37), and then in the semifinals defeatedJapan (45:32), guaranteeing a medal at the 2024 Games.
This is Ukraine's third medal at the 2024 Olympics and the second in fencing. Earlier, Kharlan won “bronze” in the individual sabre championship, and Serhiy Kulish won “silver” in shooting.
A third award at the 2024 Olympics, at least a bronze one, was guaranteed to Ukraine by Oleksandr Khizhnyak, who reached the semi-finals of the boxing tournament.
This is also the sixth Olympic award in Kharlan's career. At the previous Olympic Games, she won four medals: she became the 2008 Olympic champion and the 2016 silver medalist in the team tournament, and also won bronze medals in the individual championship at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
Ukraine is represented at the XXXIII Summer Olympics by 140 athletes who compete in 23 sports. The Games in Paris will last until August 11.
