Maryna came in second to last in the final of the triple jump competition.
Ukrainian track and field athlete Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk emotionally commented on her resultin the final of the triple jump competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The 29-year-old athlete missed the mark in her first two attempts, after which she jumped 13.98 meters in her third attempt. This was not enough to continue the fight for a medal, and she ended her performance in the final early, ultimately finishing in penultimate, 11th place.
In a commentary to Suspilne Sport after the competition, Bekh-Romanchuk could not hold back her tears.
“I was preparing to make a third attempt. I didn't think about what was behind me, because there is here and now, the past is unimportant. There were many excellent things, except for the defeats.
Unfortunately, the preparation I went through can hardly be called preparation at all. It played out some of its negative side, especially the last three weeks, which were extremely difficult for me.
Intercede in two attempts? I don’t know, I didn’t see what kind of spade it was. All I can say is that I did my best this year. In my opinion, this is a missed year.
I can’t say that this bothered me – everyone should concentrate on themselves. This is definitely a difficult year for my family. We just have to get through it,” Marina concluded with tears.
The Olympics in Paris was only the second start for Marina this season. She missed almost all the competitions due to a foot injury.
Bekh-Romanchuk competed in the triple jump for the first time in her career. At the last two Olympic Games, she competed in the long jump and also remained without medals.
In early July of this year, Bekh-Romanchuk won bronzein the triple jump at the Diamond League stage in Monaco, showing a result of 14.81 meters. Her personal best in this discipline is 15.02 meters.
It was previously reported that Marina’s husband. , Ukrainian swimmer Mikhail Romanchuk, withdrew from the 2024 OlympicsDue to illness, he did not compete in the 1500-meter freestyle, where he won silver at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
