American swimmer equals Olympic record for most gold medals among women

Katie Ledecky became a 9-time Olympic champion in swimming.

American swimmer Katie Ledecky equaled the Olympic record for most gold medals won among women.

On Saturday, August 3, the 27-year-old representative of the United States at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris won gold in the 800-meter freestyle swimming style.

Katie won the final swim with a time of 8:11.04. Silver went to Australian Ariarne Titmus (8:12.29), and bronze to American Paige Madden (8:13.00).

This is Ledecky's fourth award at the 2024 Olympics. Earlier in Paris, she won gold in the 1500-meter freestyle, silver in the 4×200 freestyle relay, and bronze in the 400-meter freestyle.

The American swimmer caught up with Soviet gymnast Larisa Latinina in the number of gold medals, who won nine top-class medals at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics.

In total, Ledecky now has 14 Olympic medals: 9 gold, 4 silver and one bronze.
