Yaroslava won her second gold award for Ukraine at the Games in Paris.
Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Maguchikhcommented on winning the gold medal in high jump at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The 22-year-old athlete from Dnipro dedicated the Olympic gold to her homeland and expressed gratitude to our military, volunteers and all those who bring Ukraine's victory in the war with the Russian occupiers closer every day.
“I won a gold medal for our country. I am very happy. I want to thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the military, and volunteers. These are medals for the whole country.
Was I nervous? Actually, I was very well-disposed. Of course, the Olympic Games are held every four years. But I tried not to think about it, because it is a sporting event after all. I had such motivation, I arrived as the season leader with a world record. This gave me motivation. Unfortunately, I couldn’t jump higher, but this is a competition, that’s how it should be. We’ll keep working, there’s something to work on,” Maguchikh said in a commentary for Suspilne Sport.
Maguchikh also posted a video on Instagram in which, immediately after her triumph, she loudly shouted, “Ukraine, I'm bringing gold home.”
For Mahuchikh, this is the second Olympic medal in her career and her first gold. She won bronze at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
In addition to Maguchikh's gold, our country won two more medals in athletics at the 2024 Olympics. Iryna Gerashchenko won bronze in the high jump, and Mikhail Kokhan won bronze in the hammer throw.
Earlier, Olga Kharlan won bronze in individual sabre, and together with Elena Kravatskaya, Alina Komashchuk and Yulia Bakastova won gold in the team. Serhiy Kulish won “silver” in rifle shooting from three positions at a distance of 50 meters.
Thus, after the ninth day of competition Ukraine has six medals at the 2024 Olympic Games: two gold, one silver and three bronze.
Another award, at least a silver one, was guaranteed for Ukraine by Oleksandr Khizhnyak, who reached the final of the boxing tournament in the weight category up to 80 kg.
Ukraine is represented at the XXXIII Summer Olympics by 140 athletes who compete in 23 sports. The Games in Paris will last until August 11.
