Ukrainian shooter Korostylev stopped next to the podium at the second Olympics in a row

Ukrainian shooter Korostylev stops near podium at second consecutive Olympics

Pavel Korostylev finished fifth in the final.

Ukrainian Pavel Korostylev took fifth place in the small-bore pistol shooting at a distance of 25 meters at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

In the final, 26-year-old Korostylev was eliminated in the fifth round. After four rounds, the Ukrainian athlete had 14 points and was in second place, but in the fifth round he hit only two shots out of five, as a result of which he prematurely ended the fight for a medal.

The gold medal in this discipline was won by Chinese Li Yuehong, the silver medalist was Cho Yong-jae from South Korea, and the bronze was won by Wang Shinjie from China.

Korostylev is the 2022 World Champion in Standard Pistol Shooting and the European Games Champion in Mixed.

Pavel stopped near the podium at the second consecutive Olympic Games. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which took place in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, he came in fourth in the 10m air pistol shooting. Then the Ukrainian gave up the medal with his last shot.

In the 25m high-speed pistol shooting, he came in ninth at Tokyo 2020 and 16th at Rio 2016.

It should be noted that for Ukraine, this was the last final of the 2024 Olympics in shooting. In this sport, we have one medal at the 2024 Olympics: Serhiy Kulish won “silver” in rifle shooting from three positions at a distance of 50 meters.

In total, Ukraine has already won six medals at the 2024 Olympics: two gold, one silver and three bronze.

Another award, at least a silver one, was guaranteed for Ukraine by boxer Oleksandr Khizhnyak, who reached the final.

Ukraine is represented at the XXXIII Summer Olympics by 140 athletes who compete in 23 sports. The Games in Paris will last until August 11.
