Zhan and Parviz will continue to fight for medals.
Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestlers Zhan Beleniuk and Parviz Nasibov reached the semifinals at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Beleniuk (weight up to 87 kg) defeated Kazakhstan's Nursultan Tursinov (7:3) in the quarterfinals. Before that, he defeated China's Haitao Qian (7:1) in his opening bout.
Nasibov (weight category: 67 kg) defeated Amantur Ismailov from Kyrgyzstan (7:6) in the quarterfinals. In the 1/8 finals, he defeated Serbian Mate Nemes (3:2).
In the semifinals, Zhan will fight against Alireza Mokhmadipiani from Iran, and Nasibov will meet Azerbaijan's Hasrat Jafarov.
The semifinal bouts involving Ukrainians will take place on Wednesday, August 7, at around 20:00 Kyiv time.
Beleniuk is the current Olympic champion. At the 2020 Tokyo Games, he won gold, and in Rio 2016, he won silver. Nasibov won silver at the 2020 Olympics.
Ukraine is represented at the XXXIII Summer Olympics by 140 athletes competing in 23 sports. Ukrainian athletes have already won seven awards at the 2024 Olympics: two gold, two silver, and three bronze.
As of now, Ukraine is in 19th place in the medal standings. The Games in Paris will last until August 11.
