Oksana Livach will take part in the fight for the bronze medal at the Games in Paris.
Ukrainian freestyle wrestler Oksana Livachwill compete for the bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
On Tuesday, August 6, the 27-year-old Ukrainian started the Olympic tournament in the 50 kg weight category. In the 1/8 finals, she defeated the representative of Uzbekistan Aktenge Kevnimzhaeva (10:0), and then in the quarterfinals she was defeated by the representative of India Vinesh Phegot (5:7).
Thanks to Phegot's advancement to the final, Livach was placed in the repechage bouts. To win a medal, the Ukrainian had to defeat two opponents in a row.
However, Phegot failed to weigh in, not making the 50 kg weight limit, and was disqualified. American Sarah Ann Hildebrandt, who lost in the semi-finals, will compete for gold instead.
In turn, Livach received the right to compete for bronze right away. The Ukrainian's opponent in the medal bout will be Japanese Yui Susaki, who is the current Olympic champion. The fight will take place on August 7, at 21:50 Kyiv time.
Let's add that Livach also fought for the bronze medal at the previous 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, but lost to Hildebrandt and was left without a medal.
Ukraine is represented at the XXXIII Summer Olympics by 140 athletes competing in 23 sports. Ukrainian athletes have already won seven awards at the 2024 Olympics: two gold, two silver and three bronze.
As of now, Ukraine occupies 19th place in the medal standings. The Games in Paris will last until August 11.
