In the final, the 33-year-old Ukrainian (weight category up to 87 kg) defeated Pole Arkadiusz Kulinicz with a score of 3:1.
Beleniuk's medal was the tenth for Ukraine at the current Olympics. Now the “blue-yellows” have three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
It should be noted that in the 1/8 finals, Beleniuk defeated Chinese Haitao Qian (7:1), and then in the quarterfinals, he defeated Kazakhstani Nursultan Tursinov (7:3). In the semi-finals, Zhan lost to Iranian Alireza Mohmadipiani (3:3) due to the fact that his opponent was the last to make an active move.
Having failed to reach the final, Beleniuk resigned as the current Olympic champion. At the 2020 Games in Tokyo, he won gold, and in Rio 2016, he won silver.
We add that earlier, another Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler, Parviz Nasibov became a silver medalist at the 2024 Olympics, losing in the final to Iranian Said Esmaili Leivesi.
