Ukrainian high jumper with personal best finishes sixth in 2024 Olympics final

Ukrainian high jumper with personal best becomes sixth in final at 2024 Olympics

Oleg Doroshchuk finished the competition with a result of 2.31 meters.

On Saturday, August 10, the final in men's high jump at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris took place.

Ukraine was represented in it by one athlete – Oleg Doroshchuk. The 23-year-old athlete from Kropyvnytskyi took sixth place.

Doroshchuk cleared 2.17 and 2.22 meters on his first attempt, and then 2.27 meters on his second attempt. He cleared the 2.31 m bar on his second attempt, setting a new personal best in his career.

After that, only six athletes remained in the sector, who continued to fight for the awards. The bar was set at a height of 2.34 meters, which Doroshchuk failed to clear in three attempts.

Interestingly, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion, Italian Gianmarco Tamberi, dropped out of the final at a height of 2.27 meters, failing to clear it in any of his three attempts. His participation in the final was in question due to kidney problems.

Two more Ukrainians, Vladislav Lavsky and Andriy Protsenko, failed to reach the finals at the 2024 Olympics, finishing their performances in qualification.

It should be noted that in the women's high jump at the 2024 Olympics, Ukrainian athletes won two medals at once: Yaroslava Mahuchikh won gold, and Iryna Gerashchenko became a bronze medalist.

The number of medals won by Ukraine will definitely increase this evening, August 10, because freestyle wrestler Iryna Kolyadenko will fight for “gold”. The day before, she made it to the final and guaranteed herself at least “silver”.
