The Zhytomyr club managed to defeat the current champion of Ukraine.
“Shakhtar" lost to “Polesie" in the match of the 2nd round of the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) of the 2024/25 season. The match at the “Left Bank” stadium in Kyiv ended with a score of 0:1.
The Zhytomyr team scored the only goal in this match in the first half. In the 35th minute, Sergei Chobotenko headed in a corner kick by Oleksandr Nazarenko.
It should be noted that in the 59th minute, the match was suspended due to an air raid siren.
Shakhtar vs. Poliesie match review
For the Miners, this is the first loss of points in the new UPL season. In the opening round, the current champions of Ukraine destroyed Vorskla (5:0).
Poliesie played its first match in the 2024/25 UPL, as the opening round match with Rukh was postponed.
In the third round of the Ukrainian championship, the Donetsk team will play against the debutant of the elite division, Left Bank, on August 18, and the Zhytomyr team will host Ingulets the day before.
Recall that Poliesie has already made its debut in European competitions this season. The Zhytomyr team lost twice to Slovenian Olimpia (0:2, 1:2) in the second round of the Conference League qualification and flew out of the tournament.
